Biography

Mr. Perricone, author of Zen and the Art of Public School Teaching, has been a Health Educator in the Maine-Endwell School District for twenty-seven years. His love and passion for teaching have made him the recipient of local, state, and national “Excellence in Teaching" awards, and he has been the recipient of Maine-Endwell's Distinguished Teacher Award for eight consecutive years since its inception. This award is voted on and presented by the Senior Class.

In Dr. Tom Lickona's book, Educating for Character, he cites Mr. Perricone as a shining example of teaching at its best. Mr. Perricone was the instructor of Hidy Ochiai's Karate of Cortland for sixteen years. In addition to teaching High School he is currently involved in training teachers throughout the state in the nationally recognized EKP (Educational Karate Program) - a character education program emphasizing non-violence, mental and physical fitness, and universal values of integrity, self-respect, and respect for others. After 35 years of training, Mr. Perricone has received his 6th degree black belt - one of the highest ranks that world renowned Master Ochiai has ever awarded in his 44 years of teaching.

He sings with the Southerntiersmen Barbershop Chorus and performs throughout the state and beyond in a quartet known as the Troubadours. The only thing that exceeds his zest for his profession and hobbies are the love of his wife Vicki and his daughters Loren and Hannah.
